Individual Counselling for Adults and Parents

Our person centered approach to individual counselling allows us to draw from a variety of evidence based counselling methods to effectively meet your unique needs, preferences, and desired results.  An individualized counselling plan might include therapeutic support to address unresolved issues from a person's early life; support in dealing with a traumatic event; cognitive behavioural therapy if dealing with symptoms of depression and /or anxiety; stress reduction through mindfulness techniques and other grounding practices; exploration of relationship to self and others by way of art and expressive therapies; and positive parenting support strategies.

Parenting can be one of the most joyful and rewarding experiences in a person's life.  Yet it can also be the most challenging and at times be filled with angst, worry and self doubt.  It is important to know that as a caregiver you are not alone. Within the context of a counselling process, a caregiver can address feelings and worries about certain issues in their lives, find support and guidance, and seek professional help for parenting issues and/or other concerns they may have about self, their child or family.

Individual counselling may also help alleviate feelings of helplessness or guilt related to your child's behavioural or emotional challenges, and bring about awareness of underlying issues often at the root of a child's struggle. By way of this supportive and non judgemental counselling process parents often feel better equiped and more confident to effectively help their child overcome challenges that are getting in the way in their life.

When a parent feels supported and validated as their child's primary resource, and understands the value of taking care of their own needs, they are often better able to foster a positive connection with their child, leading to a stronger parent- child relationship, improved communication in the family, and increased resourcefulness to solve problems within in the family.

                 Taking Care of Self

Similar to how on a plane we're told to place the oxygen mask on ourselves

before our children, only when we first

help ourselves can we effectively help our loved ones.

Caring for oneself is one of the most important things an adult can do a as parent and caregiver. When our own needs are taken care of, and our cup is filled with what brings us peace, joy, and stength, those we care for also greatly benefit.

Who looks outside, dreams. Who looks inside, awakes.
